Make music until someone dances - Moroder

Since the 1970s, Italian Giorgio Moroder has been helping to shape the course of global pop music. However, it was only in 2013 that the artist gained cult status by recording a monologue for Daft Punk's album "Random Access Memories," where he narrates his life story.

At 76 years old, Moroder is hailed as the father of dance music and has three Academy Awards for Best Original Song ("Top Gun," "Midnight Express") and nine Golden Globes, as well as several Grammys. "I'd rather be the father of dance music than the grandfather," Moroder joked in an interview with Uol.

This Saturday (03), Brazilians will get to see the musician's performance up close, as he will take the stage at Espaço das Américas in São Paulo. Moroder will host an electronic party that will also feature DJ Silvio Ribeiro and the band Rod Hanna.

The artist's most recent work is the album "Déjà Vu," released in 2015, featuring collaborations with Sia, Charli XCX, and Kylie Minogue.

In the monologue recorded for Daft Punk's album, the artist recalls the early '70s in German discos, when he began using the synthesizer to make music and realized that this was the sound of the future.

In his interview with Uol, the artist said he only decided to use the synthesizer because no one told him what to do. He simply went ahead and did it, without prejudice. "Ignore any judgment. Just do it and wait until someone dances," he advised.

Moroder's repertoire also includes compositions like "Hot Stuff," "I Feel Love," and "Carry On," made famous by Donna Summer, "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins, and "Putting Out The Fire" by David Bowie.

Although he practically invented electronic music, Moroder is not a DJ but a composer. "When you compose, you create. When you're a DJ, you perform. But, essentially, you're composing the night for the audience," he explained.
