An engineer, bored with his routine job, stepped off the stage, making way for a charismatic singer with a powerful voice, a ‘70s-inspired look, and a sound that injects new energy into brega music. Rodrigo José discovered brega music as a child, when he began listening to his mother’s old vinyl records by artists like Odair José, Sidney Magal, and many others. His passion for the genre solidified over the years.
Trained as an engineer and working in the field, he suffered two nearly simultaneous blows in his personal life: the loss of his father and the end of his marriage, which separated him from his daughter. That difficult moment sparked a major transformation. He abandoned everything and decided to dive headfirst into his musical passion.
The unique feature of Rodrigo José’s work lies in his mix of brega music with the sound of Motown and Elvis Presley from the '60s and '70s. Popular songs were given a fresh, classy makeover, complete with vintage keyboards, guitars, bass, brass, and backing vocalists. A true upgrade.
Performing killer hits like “Sorria, Sorria” (Evaldo Braga), “Eu Vou Tirar Você Desse Lugar” (Odair José), “Tenho” (Sidney Magal), “Desapareça” (Ronaldo Adriano), and “Te Amo Que Mais Posso Dizer?” (Ovelha), as well as original songs like “Eu Te Amo” and “Rosana,” the singer has captivated millions of fans through social media, becoming a true phenomenon.
With two independent CDs and one DVD under his belt, Rodrigo José has performed on various TV shows and was featured on the cover of Folha de SP’s Ilustrada section, in Monet Magazine, and even on “Google,” which listed him as one of the top musical promises for 2017.
