Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater celebrates Frank Sinatra's centenary

The celebrations for the centenary of Frank Sinatra's birth took place on Monday night (10) at the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. And an Englishman accepted the challenge of going on stage and singing the hits from "A Voz". Reporter Mônica Sanches went to check out what these new blue eyes look like.

“Try again”, as the chorus says. It's what a singer and a band do on the world's stages. The repertoire belonged to the owner of one of the most beautiful voices in history. A seductive artist who would turn a century this year. “He had a charm of his own,” says retiree Otilia Andrade.

For Englishman Louis Hoover, it all started with a feeling he had when he was a teenager and went to a Sinatra concert for the first time. He says: “I felt that there was my future, that I would also sing those songs, in that theater with a big orchestra.”

In 1980, Sinatra sang to a packed Maracanã. Many fans went to the Theatro Municipal do Rio to catch up. The show goes to five more Brazilian cities, taking Sinatra's hits that make so many people remember important moments in their lives. “It marked the romantic time of my life, of my youth,” recalls Jack Miller, a retired industrialist.

“‘New York, New York’ is already a universal ballad that is almost an anthem”, says actress Vera Fischer.
