Ângela Maria and the Songs of Roberto and Erasmo
Album launch show and new tour will be presented at the
Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro on October 7, 2017
The voice of Ângela Maria and the work of Roberto and Erasmo Carlos have been part of the emotional memory of Brazilians for decades, evoking good feelings and recalling passions, with an elegance that withstands the test of time. These commonalities led the singer to accept the suggestion from producer Thiago Marques Luiz for this project, "Ângela Maria and the Songs of Roberto and Erasmo," marking an incredible 67 years of Ângela's career.
Ângela and Thiago personally met with Roberto Carlos to ask for his authorization. Roberto welcomed them with a big smile, and for a while, they reminisced about happy moments, including memories of Lady Laura, whose favorite singer was Ângela Maria. Ângela discussed the project with Roberto, saying, “Don’t worry, I know you’re possessive, and we’ll choose the repertoire together.” Roberto said that for him and any composer, it was an honor to be recorded by Ângela, and that she had his blessing to record whatever she wanted.
The singer also requested to record “Sentado à Beira do Caminho” with Erasmo. In 1970, they did a show with a curious title, “The Best and the Worst,” advertised as "the biggest musical clash of the year." The sensationalism did not reflect the beautiful meeting, which had “Sentado à Beira do Caminho” as its highlight. Living up to his nickname “Gentle Giant,” Erasmo joined her in the studio to record the duet.
The album concludes with “Como é Grande o Meu Amor Por Você,” with Ângela sharing the microphone with Cauby Peixoto, her lifelong friend and partner. The track was originally recorded in 2013 for the award-winning album "Reencontro," and here it reappears with new arrangements, a fresh mix, and a different vocal take from the previously released version.
Given the freedom to choose the repertoire, songs written by Roberto and Erasmo between 1969 and 1979 were selected.
Ângela is moved by these songs, listens to them at home, but has never had the courage to sing them live until now.
