Considered by many as the greatest French artist in history, Charles Aznavour is proof that there is no age to shine.
If there is one artist who managed to transcend generations with his unforgettable songs, it is Charles Aznavour. At 92, he remains more active than ever, performing shows all over the world.
Charles returns to Brazil in March 2017, with performances in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Unmissable!
In fact, this memorable French singer, composer, and actor announced his "Farewell Tour" in 2006. But the success of this tour was so great that the artist decided to stay on the road and expand the list of more than 90 countries where he has already performed.
He has sold over 100 million records, recorded more than 600 songs, released nearly 300 albums, appeared in over 60 films, and earned the respect of both audiences and critics, something very difficult to achieve simultaneously and unanimously over a long period.
Charles Aznavour was born in Paris on May 22, 1924, the son of a singer and an actress from Armenia. His career in the musical scene began in the 1940s, as a performer and composer. Then, an encounter changed his life forever.
After seeing a performance of the singer on a radio station in the late 1940s, none other than Edith Piaf, the great diva of French song, took him to open her shows on a tour through France and the USA. The singer even lived with her for a time, and she recorded some of his compositions, as did other important French singers.
His success as a performer also gained momentum starting in the 1960s. His ability to entertain audiences at shows helped in this regard, along with his talent for writing songs in French, English, Italian, Spanish, and German.
Over time, his hits spread worldwide, including masterpieces like "She," "The Old Fashioned Way," "La Bohème," "Yesterday When I Was Young," "Que C’Est Triste Venise," and "L’Amour C’Est Comme Un Jour," to name just a few.
In the last 40 years, the artist has performed worldwide, always to sold-out houses, and his songs have been recorded by names like Elton John, Sting, Bob Dylan, Plácido Domingo, Céline Dion, Julio Iglesias, Liza Minnelli, Ray Charles, and Elvis Costello.
It is no surprise that in 1988, he was voted Entertainer of the 20th Century by CNN and Time. Nothing could be more fitting for an artist who transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, always engaged in humanitarian and cultural causes.
