GUILHERME ARANTES CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF CAREER

One of Brazil's greatest hitmakers offers a broad overview of his biggest successes in an intimate and relaxed show.

It all began in 1976 when "Meu Mundo e Nada Mais," the theme of the first version of the Globo soap opera *Anjo Mau*, reached the top of the charts. Since then, Guilherme Arantes has established himself as one of Brazil's top hitmakers. He celebrates these 40 years of success with a show that will take place on November 27 at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro.

Arantes will deliver an intimate performance, featuring just voice and piano. Between songs, he will share behind-the-scenes stories from his career and give details about how he composed these timeless songs, with their captivating melodies and romantic, liberating lyrics that have touched generations.

The career of this singer, songwriter, and keyboardist, born on July 28, 1953, began to take off when he was part of the progressive rock group Moto Perpétuo, with whom he recorded a single album. But it was as a solo artist that his career truly took shape.

With his first solo album, the self-titled *Guilherme Arantes* (1976), he captured the public's attention with standout hits like "Meu Mundo e Nada Mais," "Descer a Serra," "Nave Errante," and "Cuide-se Bem." Soon after, he continued to place successive songs in the soundtracks of Globo soap operas ("Meu Mundo e Nada Mais," "Cuide-se Bem," "Amanhã") and long-lasting themes like "Êxtase."

He kicked off the 1980s with the success of "Aprendendo a Jogar," a song he wrote that was recorded by none other than Elis Regina. From there, he took over the radio waves with "Deixa Chover," "Planeta Água," "O Melhor Vai Começar," "Lance Legal," "Pedacinhos," "Loucas Horas," and "Cheia de Charme," among many others, including creations for children's specials ("Lindo Balão Azul" and "Brincar de Viver").

He solidified his career during that decade thanks to sold-out concerts and more hits like "Cheia de Charme" and "Coisas do Brasil." In the 1990s, he released a series of important works, becoming a reference for multiple generations.

In these 40 years of his career, record labels have released an impressive number of compilation albums of his greatest hits (40 in total), and Guilherme has been revisited by artists from diverse genres in over a hundred covers. After a six-year hiatus from releasing new albums (the previous one, *Lotus*, was released in 2007), Guilherme Arantes decided to "verticalize" self-production with *Condição Humana* (2013) in the studio he set up in Bahia, called Coaxo do Sapo. This work brought him even closer to new generations and earned him the 2013 Multishow Award for Best Album of the Year.

The São Paulo star will soon release a retrospective box set through Sony Music, composed of 23 CDs, 21 of which are his studio works, one live album, and a compilation of his singles originally released only on vinyl singles.
