ABOUT IL VOLO
The story of IL VOLO—told by the trio in two books ("An Extraordinary Adventure" and "Il Volo, What I Carry in My Heart")—began in 2009, when the three young artists appeared as solo contestants on RAI1’s talent show “Ti lascio una canzone.” Discovered by manager Michele Torpedine (who has worked with icons like Andrea Bocelli and Zucchero), the trio quickly embarked on an international artistic journey, becoming the first Italian act to sign with American label Geffen Records.
Their debut album, “Il Volo” (2010), went platinum and reached prominent positions on the Billboard charts, propelling the trio into the international spotlight with appearances on major U.S. shows such as "The Tonight Show" and "American Idol." Their compelling performances led to collaborations with stars including a 12-show historic tour with Barbra Streisand in 2012, and recording duets on their second album "We Are Love" (2012) with artists like Plácido Domingo and Eros Ramazzotti.
In 2015, IL VOLO skyrocketed to fame after winning the Sanremo Music Festival with "Grande Amore," which became a commercial and critical success and led them to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest. They followed up with albums like "L'amore si muove" and sold-out tours in legendary venues including Radio City Music Hall and Arena di Verona.
Their tribute to The Three Tenors—José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti—titled "Notte Magica" in Florence’s Piazza Santa Croce reaffirmed their artistic excellence, blending homage to classical greats with a worldwide tour. In 2018, they stood out with humanitarian-focused performances, such as a peacekeeping concert in Lebanon and a Christmas special broadcast by RAI 1.
In 2019, they performed in Panama during the 34th World Youth Day, in front of Pope Francis and over a million people, in an event broadcast globally.
After a decade of international acclaim, IL VOLO continued to innovate. In 2021, they honored Ennio Morricone with a special concert at Arena di Verona and the release of "Il Volo Sings Morricone." In 2022, the year concluded with the special “Il Volo – Christmas in Jerusalem” (a Michele Torpedine project), where their unmistakable voices resonated in the Holy Land for a moving televised performance.
Following six special dates at Milan’s Teatro Arcimboldi and a European tour in 2023, they released a Christmas EP titled “4 Xmas,” featuring four tracks including a unique version of “Happy Xmas,” “Amazing Grace,” “O Tannenbaum,” and “Feliz Navidad.”
In 2024, celebrating 15 years of career, the trio embarked on one of the most successful world tours to date, filling arenas in major world capitals. The “Tutti Per Uno” project (another Michele Torpedine production) included four special shows at Arena di Verona broadcast by Channel 5, with collaborations featuring top Italian artists. They then launched “Tutti Per Uno – Capolavoro”, a tour across Italy’s most iconic landmarks, including the monumental Piazza San Marco in Venice.
In December 2024, they were special guests at Andrea Bocelli’s Los Angeles concert, performing “Il Gladiatore” and “’O Sole Mio” alongside the tenor—a heartfelt gift to their fans.
On December 24, 2024, their Christmas Concert recorded in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento aired in prime time on Channel 5, and will also be broadcast by PBS throughout 2025.
In January 2025, IL VOLO performed the large-scale “Tutti Per Uno - Ad Astra Live Nei Palasport” tour in Italian arenas. In February, they appeared as special guests at the 75th Sanremo Festival, performing Simon & Garfunkel's “The Sound of Silence” in collaboration with singer Clara.
After a U.S. tour, the trio returned to Italy in May for the third edition of “Tutti per Uno – Viaggio nel Tempo”, performing duets with leading Italian singers.
Their latest album, “Ad Astra,” was released on March 29, 2024, by Epic Records/Sony Music Italy. In November 2024, they released “Ad Astra – International Edition”, enriched with five new tracks, including "Capolavoro" (English version), which was performed at Sanremo 2024 and certified Gold Record. On December 6, they released their new single and music video “Tra le onde.”
