Biography

Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble participated in 2009 as solo artists in the talent competition “Ti Lascio Una Canzone,” aired on the Italian TV channel RAI 1. They caught the attention of Michele Torpedine, a producer who brought stars like Andrea Bocelli, Zucchero, Giorgia, and Biagio Antonacci to fame.

It was Michele's idea to bring the boys together as a trio, believing their combined talents would take them far. And he was right. They became the first Italian group to be immediately signed by an international powerhouse label, Geffen Records.

Their debut album, Il Volo (2010), proved Michele Torpedine's bet was spot-on. The album reached the Top 10 of the highly competitive U.S. charts, leading them to perform on major TV shows in the U.S. and Europe, and finding success in numerous countries.

In that same year, they earned significant recognition when the legendary American producer Quincy Jones invited them to participate in the charity recording “We Are The World For Haiti,” alongside stars such as Celine Dion, Bono, Lady Gaga, Carlos Santana, Barbra Streisand, Enrique Iglesias, Usher, and Natalie Cole.

In 2012, they embarked on a 12-show tour with Barbra Streisand and released the album We Are Love, featuring special guests Plácido Domingo and Eros Ramazzotti.

In 2013, they quickly sold out the 1,600 tickets for their performance at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in New York, ensuring a full house for their show there.

That historic show launched a North and South American tour with 50 dates, all sold out. Their choice of pop-opera couldn't have been more successful or well-executed.

From that point on, it was hit album after hit album, sold-out shows worldwide, and a major achievement in their homeland of Italy: winning the historic Sanremo Festival in 2015 with the song “Grande Amore,” one of the biggest hits of their career.

Notably, the 2016-2017 tour titled Notte Magica - A Tribute to the Three Tenors, paid homage to the legendary concert performed by Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, and José Carreras at the 1990 World Cup in Italy. Plácido Domingo himself, one of the Three Tenors and an enthusiastic fan of the trio, even joined them for one of these performances.
