Madeleine Peyroux

The American singer returns to Brazil to promote “Anthem”,

the most ambitious album of his successful musical career,

and also show several of his biggest hits

Nine albums and 23 years since her recording debut, American singer-songwriter Madeleine Peyroux continues to challenge the limits of jazz, venturing into the fertile fields of contemporary music with a continuous curiosity that makes her flirt with various musical genres in a creative and inspired way. His fusion of jazz, blues, folk, soul-funk and pop reflects an unusual and captivating personality.

Madeleine Peyroux returns to Brazil in September this year to perform with her talented band,  in Porto Alegre on the 12th (Auditório Araújo Viana), Curitiba on the 13th (Teatro Guaíra), São Paulo on the 14th (Tom Brasil), Belo Horizonte on the 20th (Palácio das Artes) and Rio de Janeiro on the 21st and 22nd of September (Theatro Municipal).

The tour includes some of the most popular songs from her repertoire during more than two decades on the road, and also promotes her most recent album, “Anthem”, the ninth released by her.

“Anthem” arose from a casual meeting that took place in August 2016 and was promoted by the producer who helped her achieve stardom, Larry Klein, known for his work with Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock and Tracy Chapman, among others.

“He (Larry) was bringing together a group of composers in a studio, and as he was in Los Angeles he asked if I could participate. Then, we went to pianist Patrick Warren's studio and stayed there for a few days exchanging ideas about songs I could sing. After three or four of these meetings, I said to him: You know, Larry, we have some really good songs. I think we should record an album.”

“Anthem” is the result of a meeting with composers/musicians Patrick Warren (Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Lana Del Rey, The Red Hot Chili Peppers), Brian MacLeod (Leonard Cohen, Tina Turner, Ziggy Marley) and David Baerwald (Joni Mitchell, Sheryl Crow), who are also the musicians who recorded this CD with her, in addition to Larry Klein.

Together, they take a sober, poetic and, at times, philosophical look at the current state of the world. “Anthem” is Peyroux’s biggest project to date, with her investing several months of hands-on studio involvement, exploring processed sounds and post-track editing.

The title track, “Anthem”, is written by the late Canadian singer, songwriter and writer Leonard Cohen, one of Madeleine's favorite artists, who has recorded two other compositions of his before and always features at least one song written by him. Cohen on his shows.

Biography

When Madeleine Peyroux began performing on the streets of Paris as a singer and guitarist at the age of 16, she had no clear plan for her life and could never have imagined that her extraordinary journey would become one of the most compelling in the music industry .

She was born in Athens, Georgia, on April 19, 1974, and raised in New York and California. When his parents separated, he moved with his mother to France at the age of 13, and it was there that his passion for music, especially jazz, blossomed once and for all.

Discovered by Atlantic Records producer, Yves Beauvais released his debut work, “Dreamland” in 1996, which had immediate repercussions around the world. After a lot of battle, in a period during which he managed to overcome several personal problems, he returned to the scene with everything.

“Careless Love” (2004), her second album, produced by Larry Klein, placed her in her deserved place among the new divas of modern jazz. Her style of performance has led her to be compared to none other than Billie Holiday, one of her main influences.

From her third album, “Half The Perfect World” (2006), she established herself once and for all as a cutting-edge artist on the jazz scene, always open to elements of other sounds, such as folk, soul-funk and pop, without, however, losing its elegant sophistication.
