Rod Hanna: Brazil's Biggest Disco Band
Imagine yourself in Times Square, with the Rod Hanna band set up right in the center, playing the biggest Broadway hits in a disco rhythm. That’s what awaits you in the band’s new show, titled Disco Broadway, which features many novelties such as the big hit "Summer - The Donna Summer Musical," winner of several Tony Awards, making the show more disco than ever.
The show also includes songs from other famous Broadway musicals that have achieved great success, such as The Phantom of the Opera, one of the most sensational numbers in Disco Broadway, performed in a personalized style by Rod Hanna.
Among the songs that reflect the disco era, the musical Mamma Mia (Gimme Gimme, Mamma Mia, and Dancing Queen) is one of the highlights of the show.
Rod Hanna Disco Broadway also pays tribute to Carmen Miranda, explaining the Brazilian passion for musicals. Carmen made Brazil the star of Broadway in the late 1930s, making musicals more fun and spontaneous.
Learn More About Rod Hanna
Rod Hanna is a Brazilian band specializing in disco music, with seven CDs and four DVDs of covers and original tracks. Formed 30 years ago by the duo Rodrigo Laguna and Nora Hanna, they have collaborated with American disco music groups A Taste of Honey and Boys Town Gang, as well as Brazilian artists: Kiko Zambianchi, As Frenéticas, Luiz Schiavon (RPM), Kiko Loureiro (Angra), Thomas Roth, DJ Memê, and Tuta Aquino.
Their first CD, Rod Hanna, was produced by Kiko Zambianchi and featured nine original tracks and a cover of You’ve Got a Friend by Carole King, paving the way for Xuxa Hits, a major platform for dance artists at the time.
In 1996, they released their second CD, Vini, openly embracing the influence of the 70s. They also recorded their first music video, directed by Geraldo Santos, which was well-received on MTV.
In 1999, they released the CD and music video Disco, featuring period costumes, which led to a five-minute segment with Zeca Camargo on Fantástico due to its novelty and good reception. Since then, the disco revival craze has kept the band’s schedule full.
Following that, they released their live CD Disco Festa 1, the retro-futuristic CD 2070, and the live Disco Festa 2, featuring a collaboration with DJ Memê on two tracks, including Heaven Knows.
In 2005, they released their first DVD, Rod Hanna, featuring appearances by Frenéticas and Kiko Zambianchi. The new track "Pra Você Voltar" was a highlight on MTV, and the work also includes "Seguir Só", produced by Memê and written by Rodrigo Laguna.
In 2009, they released their second DVD while traveling across Brazil with their show, directed by Ricardo Fabio, a musician and director of thematic shows in the USA.
Since 2009, they have also performed Mamma Mia-O Show with the English group ABBA Magic. In 2011, it was Rod Hanna On Broadway, and in 2014-2015, they toured with the famous American disco music group A Taste Of Honey.
"We are also collaborating with former Commodores member David Cochrane, which started during our tour with A Taste of Honey with the hit 'Boogie Oogie Oogie.' David came as a guitarist and fell in love with our band, inviting us to record with him. We have released two collaborative songs: 'To Have You Again' and 'Let’s Go Crazy.' In the second half of the year, we will release 'New Old Love,' authored by David and myself," explains Rodrigo Laguna, Rod.
Throughout their career, the band has remained true to their style, producing different shows such as the successful musical “On Broadway” and more recently, Disco in Concert, accompanied by an Orchestra.
