Music performed in a way you've never seen or heard before. This is a good introduction to the German all-female quartet Salut Salon, internationally renowned and coming to Brazil for the first time in April to showcase their acclaimed work. These beautiful and virtuosic musicians excel at their instruments.
With over ten years of experience, the group is founded on the belief that a classical music concert can be fun not only for those performing but also for the audience. They surprise by doing things out of the ordinary.
A traditional classical piece might suddenly include the theme from the movie "Mission Impossible," for instance, or a tango, or even French music. Their performances also incorporate theatrical elements, puppet shows, acrobatics, and even circus clown acts.
“Anything fits into our work: Mendelssohn, artistic clowning, puppet theater, etc.,” explains violinist Angelika Bachman, one of the group's founders. This helps explain the incredible 17 million views of their YouTube videos.
“The best ideas come when we truly let go of our thoughts and try things that no one would have ever thought of working on,” says cellist Sonja-Lena Schmidt.
Pianist Anne-Monika Von Twardowiski takes the definition of Salut Salon's work even further: “It's all about breaking expectations, provoking people and even scaring them a bit, and then grabbing them and taking them somewhere new.”
The German group is influenced by innovative artists like Astor Piazzolla and Camille Saint-Saëns, who never imposed limits or restrictions on their creativity. Passionate virtuosity, instrumental acrobatics, charm, and a great sense of humor are trademarks of the performances by these four musicians.
Hailing from the German city of Hamburg, Salut Salon has toured extensively in their home country, as well as throughout Europe, China, Russia, the USA, and Latin America, consistently winning audiences over with their energetic and innovative performances, showcasing classical music in a unique and captivating way.
