Regarding the tour, BRIGHTMAN says fans "can expect the unexpected" and reveals that the show will be divided into two parts: one part with her greatest hits (those that fans love) and another part with some songs from the new album HYMN. After Brazil, the tour will continue to Peru, Uruguay, and Argentina, and then to more than 125 shows across 5 continents throughout 2019.
The album that names the new tour - HYMN, the fifteenth in SARAH BRIGHTMAN's career, will be released worldwide on November 9, 2018 (Decca Gold/Universal Music Group) and will be her first studio album in 5 years.
Recorded over the past two years in Hamburg, Miami, London, Vancouver, Los Angeles, New York, and Budapest, HYMN is a collaboration between SARAH and her longtime producer Frank Peterson. The result is an album based on spirituality, a collection of choral orchestrated songs that BRIGHTMAN says she "felt a lot of peace while recording". Among the songs on the new album are Hymn, Sogni, Sky and Sand, Canto per Noi, Fly to Paradise, and Gia Nel Seno (La Storia).
BIOGRAPHY
Global artist, music icon, actress, and humanitarian, Sarah Brightman, considered by many to be the greatest soprano in the world, was a pioneer in the classical crossover music movement and is famous for having a vocal range of over 3 octaves. Sarah is the only artist to have simultaneously topped both the Billboard dance music and classical music charts. Her voice has resonated in theaters, arenas, cathedrals, World Heritage sites, and Olympic stadiums, bringing to life some of the most beautiful music in the world. Sarah’s work transcends any specific musical genre, synthesizing many influences and inspirations into a unique sound and vision. Today, she remains among the world’s most prominent artists, with global sales of 30 million copies and more than 180 gold and platinum awards in over 40 countries.
Born and raised in Berkhamsted, England, Sarah began singing and dancing at the age of three. She started her career as a member of the television dance troupe Hot Gossip and released several successful singles as a solo artist.
In 1981, Sarah made her theatrical debut in the West End musical Cats, where she met composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. She soon starred in several Broadway musicals, including the world-famous The Phantom of the Opera, for which the role of Christine Daaé was written with Sarah in mind. In 1987, the Original London Cast Album of the musical was released on CD and sold over 40 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling cast album of all time.
After many years of success on the musical stage, Sarah decided to start anew and resumed her music career with former Enigma co-producer Frank Peterson. Her first release, Dive (1993), was a pop album with a water theme featuring "Captain Nemo," a cover of a song by Swedish electronic band Dive. The album gave Sarah her first success as a solo artist and earned a Gold award for exceptional international sales. The second collaboration between Sarah and Frank resulted in the pop album Fly, which catapulted her to fame across Europe with its hit “A Question of Honor” - a mix of electronic, rock, classical strings, and excerpts from Alfredo Catalani’s opera “La Wally.” Another single, "Time to Say Goodbye" - a duet with tenor Andrea Bocelli - became an international success, selling 12 million copies worldwide. Subsequent albums including Eden (1998), La Luna (2000), Harem (2003), and Symphony (2008) became Billboard hits and were accompanied by world tours.
In recent years, Sarah has been invited to perform at high-profile events around the world, including the 2007 Concert for Diana, where she performed with Josh Groban, and the Kennedy Center Honors. Sarah was the first artist to be invited to perform the theme song at the Olympics on two occasions. The first was at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, where she sang "Amigos Para Siempre" with Spanish tenor Jose Carreras, with an estimated global audience of one billion people. Sixteen years later, in Beijing, this time with Chinese singer Liu Huan, Sarah performed the song "You and Me" for around 4 billion people worldwide.
Driven by passion and purpose, and a desire to push her limits as an artist, Sarah continues to grow and develop her career. In 2012, she accepted UNESCO’s nomination as a “Artist for Peace” Ambassador and is actively engaged in UNESCO World Heritage Center’s efforts.
On September 26, 2012, Sarah released the first single “Angel” from her new album, “Dreamchaser,” which was released worldwide in April 2013 and debuted at number 1 on the Classics soundscan charts (Canada / USA) and at number 5 (Canada) and #17 (USA) on the Top 200 Billboard. Brightman’s “Dreamchaser” world tour began in China in 2013, spanning five continents with over 100 show dates during 2013/2014.
